Dancing queen

Last weekend we said ‘hi’ to a new girl, Ine. She ‘ll work together with Eva and Greet in the school. So now, our bedroom is completely filled with four beds, standing next to each other, covered under twee mosquitonets. Speaking about mosquitoes, we actually have to thank Greet to be here with us, ‘cause she’s the one the mosquitoes are in love with…

Using local transport

While sad moments happen, happy moments predominate. I wished all of you could enjoy the first Rihanna-cover-concert that has taken place at the Morawaka Tea Estate; we were (acting) fabulous!

Ri & Hanna

Because of the rice and curies for breakfast, lunch and dinner, we had to do something to encourage our bowels. So that’s why we started with the Poopoo-award. Let’s explain… Well, honestly, I think an explanation is not necessary. To still have readers in the future, I’ll save you this!

Matara

My work at the hospital involves taking ECG’s, giving rabies and tetanus vaccinations, measuring blood glucose levels, weight and length and taking blood pressure. Sometimes communication is not all of that, but together with my colleagues we’re really trying. They are friendly, downright sweet and helpful. Every day I’m learning more Sinhalese, but last week we suddenly changed roles and I taught them some Dutch!

Hard to find trash cans; how happy can you be?

Wednesday evening, doctor Ravi and his wife and daughter took us to visit a temple (somewhere between Morawaka and Deniyaya). The road was incredibly steep, but during all those years and with some music in the background, doctor Ravi had become an expert in fighting this one. We learned about Buddha, offering, praying, making wishes, …  Together they’re a very sweet couple and we really enjoyed listening to their interesting and funny stories.

Looking for some coolness...

We spend our weekend in Matara again; but this times with almost the whole group of Belgian students! Very nice to see each other again. They spend the weekend with us; we went to Mirissa beach, a Buddhist temple and a fundraiser together. Sunday afternoon, they traveled back to Kandy! Already looking forward to see them back in December!

Visiting Parey Dewa Temple

Furthermore, the kids guided us on a walk through the tea estate. We really enjoyed being so close to nature, seeing beautiful landscapes, discovering flowers, big leafs and animals! Beside all of these miraculous fauna and flora, we’re looking with wide spread eyes to the elegance of the children walking and running over the path full of stones, on their bare feet!

Coloured fish for dinner

-My brother told me that posting a comment on my blog is not possible. I’m trying to figure out how to fix this!-
